Its raining honors for Akshay Kumar, after being conferred the Katana – a Japanese sword endowed to the grandmaster of martial arts. The sixth degree Karate black belt champion Akshay Kumar is the sole Indian celeb to endorses sports so well and therefore has been chosen to be India’s torch bearer for Olympics 2010.
Yesterday Canadian prime minister Stephen Harper did the honours at a ceremony held in Mumbai. Akshay is the only actor on the list of prominent torchbearers from across the world who have been honoured with the prestigious position.
“Representing my country at this event is a life time honor. The Olympics is one of the greatest sporting events in the world. Bringing nations together, which even the greatest statesmen find it difficult to do. Sports unites us all,” said Akshay.
“Mahatma Gandhi saw the flame as a symbolic gesture of equality and liberation of Human Rights. I too see the torch as a symbol of freedom, peace and hope around the world,” he added.
Congrats Akki!
