The day certainly belonged to lyricists Yugabharathi and Snehan, who with their sparkling wit and humour, entertained the audience who had gathered to witness the audio and trailer launch of the film Ariyaan.
The film, which has been directed by P Karthikeyan, has newcomers Aadithya and Ragini Dwivedi playing the lead. Vikram Varman has composed the music for the film.
Yugabharathi, who was invited to speak first, handled the situation well by turning his speech into a welcome address.
“Usually, directors and producers give us (lyricists) the tunes and keep calling us repeatedly for the songs. We switch off our phones in the hope of returning their calls when we finish writing the lyrics. However, after delivering the songs to them, they switch off their phones when we call them to ask about our pay cheques,” he said on a lighter note, evoking peals of laughter. “However, for this film, I was paid the whole sum even before I began work on it,” he added.
Lyricist Snehan, for his part, expressed sadness about the fact that most assistant directors and lyricists had to wait for their salaries even after working for a project.
