Univercell Vijay Awards is back! Asusual this year’s nominees also selected by film buffs and to receive their nominations, Vijay TV has come up with Rasigan Express, a publicity van which will travel throughout Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry gathering public’s input which will decide the nominees. This unique van was flagged off by Honorable Minister Mr. Parithi Ilamvazhuthi (Information Minister of Tamil Nadu) in the presence of eminent personalities including Mr. Ramanarayanan (President of Tamil Film Producers’ Assocation), Mr. Bharathi Raja (President of Tamil Film Directors’ Association), Sarath Kumar (President of South Indian Film Artists Association) and Mr. V.C. Guganathan (President of Film Employees’ Federation of South India).
After collecting the votes from public, the star stunned function was held On 13th June 2009 at Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium. The show began with the dance performance by the gorgeous Tamil Cinema beauties - Rukmani, Laksmi Rai, Nikitha, Meenakshi, Neetu Chandra and Meghna Naidu.

Actor Kamal Haasan won the best comedian, best villain, best story screenplay awards and Sony Ericsson Favourite Hero award. He received the best comedian award for the role as Balram Naidu in Dasavatharam. He dedicated the award to actors Nagesh and Vivek.
Actor Suriya won the best actor award for Vaaranam Aayiram, Simran won the Best Supporting actor (female) for her performance in Vaaranam Aayiram and music director Harris Jayaraj won the Whirlpool Best Music Director award for the same movie. The playback singer award was presented by Univercell owner Sathish Babu and his wife, and actor Vivek to Hariharan
Subramaniyapuram team was announced as the best Crew of Tamil Cinema. The Best Find of the Year award goes to music director James Vasanthan for his excellant music for Subramaniyapuram. Sathyam Cinemas won the Best Contribution to Tamil Cinema award.
