Iron Man 2 story | Iron Man 2 Review | Hollywood Movie Iron Man 2 review | English Film Iron Man 2 Review

Iron Man 2
u/a; action
Dir: Jon Favreau
Cast: Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Mickey Rourke, Don Cheadle, Sam Rockwell, Samuel L Jackson, Scarlett Johansson

What's it about: When Iron Man came out two years ago, everyone raised eyebrows. Robert Downey Jr didn't have a Sherlock Holmes on his resume yet, and Gwyneth Paltrow was remembered as Chris Martin's wife. But the film resurrected both their fates. Now Iron Man 2 tries to keep that reputation alive and gives it a hard edge with Mickey Rourke as the baddie Whiplash. This time, Iron Man has to battle more than just the bad guys. He's struggling to cope with his inner demons who remind him the clock's ticking as his blood toxic level keeps increasing with every second. Tony Stark is dying, you ask? Well, super heroes too are insecure and that's the beauty of this one.

What's hot: Let's talk about the fireworks later. First, we have to acknowledge that the film has a credible plot which is very important in a film like this. Besides the fact that Tony Stark is a narcissist, we find out he also has the same fears as you and me. Despite flying in a G5 and racing at the Monaco Grand Prix, Stark is constantly living under the dubious shadow of his impending doom. This angle makes the story more believable. Rourke is brilliant as the maniac Russian wanting to avenge the death of his father. There is no actor as menacing as him. In scenes where he has no dialogues, he speaks through his eyes and trademark scowl. Action scenes might be few, but when they come, they don't disappoint. The climax face off between Iron Man, his side kick (Cheadle) and Rourke is brilliant. Downey Jr is fantastic and shows us yet again why the whole franchise would be ineffective without him.

What's not: Those expecting bigger action scenes, more fights and heavy special effects will be disappointed. The emphasis in the sequel is on banter and dialogue than fist fights and violence. Scarlett Johansson disappoints in her role as the undercover agent. Her acting is as bad as those oxidized perms. Also, Paltrow lacks the punch of the Pepper Potts we saw the first time. There is no chemistry between her and Downey and even the friendly fights don't get us worked up.

What to do: A must watch for Downey Jr fans. Iron Man's armour might have weakened, but his eagerness to have fun has not.
